Galaxy Fold Broken
The Samsung Galaxy Fold has definitely arrived in style but not without its share of problems already creeping in. Some reviewers reported having a broken screen in their review units of the Galaxy Fold and the news has spread like wildfire among the tech community. A number of people reviewing the Galaxy Fold have experienced the displays of their phones behaving weirdly and in some cases almost dying completely.
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg first reported having issues in his Galaxy Fold display. He mentioned one half of the display turning black. The interesting part though is that Mark peeled off a plastic film that apparently should not have been removed.
Steve Kovach of CNBC.com also had the same issues with his Galaxy Fold. The display of his phone reportedly broke even without touching the protective layer on top of his Galaxy Fold device.
Samsung has provided the following statement to The Verge
Samsung noted that they will thoroughly inspect the units in person. They also addressed the issue of the screen breaking and mentioned that the reviewers had attempted to peel off a protective plastic layer that was applied to the screen itself.
Samsung said that The main display on the Galaxy Fold features a protective layer, which is a part of the display structure designed to protect the screen from unintended scratches. Removing the protective layer or adding adhesives to the main display may cause damage. They also said that they will make sure the information is clearly delivered to the customers.
What’s causing the screen break in Galaxy Fold?
The reason the screens on the Galaxy Fold are breaking is due to the removal of the protective plastic film adhered on to the screen itself. Though it looks like a screen protector but it actually is a part of the display that should not be removed under any circumstances.
What’s next for Samsung Galaxy Fold?
There is no denying that the Galaxy Fold is most refreshing piece of smartphone technology in the last decade. Samsung has made a leap forward in the future with Galaxy Fold and it is by no means a finished or a final product. There are some shortcomings but its still a first generation folding phone. Let’s be honest here and admit the fact that Samsung has shown us a glimpse of what is in store for us in the future as far as the smartphone experience is concerned. It’s an original innovative product and it will improve over the course of time as the tech evolves with time. That very possibility of a scenario where the fold-able phones would become mainstream and more affordable is interesting.
